As some of you may know, our air conditioner has been out for around three weeks. I have to move the water heater in order to have the air conditioner fixed. (HUH? you are asking. The lady I bought the townhouse from had shit for brains and put the water heater smack dab in front of the furnace. Space efficient, yes! Intelligent, not so much.)
So I have been experimenting with ways to keep cool this summer.
1) The pool. Ah, thank goodness I have a pool. Because when it gets hot, I can take a dip, and cool off.
2)Lake Tahoe. Nothing will chill you to the bone like dunking yourself in the ice-cold waters of the lake.
3)A fan and a water bottle. Now, the dog HATES when I do this, because someone used a spray bottle as dog punishment, rather than what I use it for, which is cooling relief. Turn on fan, spray water. Instant spritz!
4)Never turn on the oven or stove. Enough said.
5)Car air conditioning. Never have I looked forward to taking a long, long drive.
6)Open windows all night! This has been our most effective strategy; however, nights when there is a lot of smoke are really, really hot. That is when I have to resort to stripping and spritzing.
7)A cold shower. This works wonders for being hot.
8)Oddly enough, a hot cup of tea or coffee. Apparently this is supposed to cool you off, and while it does help, I prefer a cold shower or a dip in the pool.
As you can tell, our water bill is going to be higher than normal this month. But the water heater gets moved tomorrow and then we will get that stupid AC fixed! Whoo, hoo! Just in time for the hottest month of the year, too!
